KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) said it activated its crisis and emergency response teams and swiftly mobilised resources, including volunteers, to assist and support those affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights.
PGB said that since day one, more than 100 of its staff have volunteered to manage food distribution at the temporary relief centre (PPS), with the company providing about 1,000 food packs daily for victims at relief centres and frontliners on site.
“Volunteers included PGB employees, some of whom were among the first to assist the Social Welfare Department (JKM) at the PPS.
“These relief centres were established to provide safe, temporary shelter for individuals and families relocated from their homes,” PGB said in a statement.
Prioritising safety and the well-being of affected communities, PGB has been working closely with designated hospitals and the Health Ministry to facilitate medical care for victims receiving emergency treatment.
The company said it is collaborating with federal and state governments to channel aid and alleviate the burden of those impacted by the incident. It is also working with the State Disaster Management Committee on additional support, such as transit housing post-PPS for those who need longer-term accommodation.
“For communities facing total or partial loss of property, PGB, in collaboration with Prihatin Selangor, has distributed more than RM700,000 in monetary aid.
“Each household will receive either RM5,000 or RM2,500, depending on the extent of their property loss,” it said, adding that other Petronas Group entities — namely Petronas Dagangan Bhd and Yayasan Petronas — have also contributed care packs containing essential supplies for displaced victims.
