Airbnb offers 78 temporary homes for Puchong fire victims

SHAH ALAM, April 6 — Homestay management company Airbnb has offered 78 of its units as temporary accommodation for victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire in Subang Jaya.

The units are available for use for two months.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this is in addition to the 100 temporary-accommodation houses offered by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).

“For the LPHS houses under the Selangor SMART Sewa scheme, rent is free, with expenses borne by the state government,” he said at a press conference at the State Secretariat Building today.

Yesterday, Amirudin said the 100 LPHS units involved locations in Kota Warisan, Sepang, while the rest will be announced later.

Meanwhile, Amirudin added that from today, water will be diverted from Taman Putra Harmoni as the flow was heading directly to the explosion site, causing water to stagnate, though efforts were made by the investigation team to pump water from the area.

He said the important move would stabilise the area’s soil structure before follow-up steps can be taken as part of the investigation process.

The explosion and fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, at 8.10am on Tuesday, took almost eight hours to extinguish, and left behind a nearly 10m-deep crater of over 500sqm at the location.
