SHAH ALAM, April 5—The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has consented to cancel the Aidilfitri Madani 2025 state-level open house, which was due to take place tomorrow.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision was made out of respect for the victims and families affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire in Subang Jaya on Tuesday (April 1).

"All preparations for the event, including food, will be redirected to temporary relief centres (PPS), orphanages, boarding schools, and security personnel.

"On behalf of the entire state government, I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this cancellation, made in honour of the victims and their families," he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the open house's organising team and all the personnel who worked tirelessly to ensure the event could proceed as planned.

"Nonetheless, I am deeply grateful for the shared understanding in prioritising greater public interest.

"May Allah SWT bless all our efforts and our solidarity in supporting the victims and all those involved," he said.

Tuesday's incident, which occurred at 8.10am, saw flames soaring over 30 metres high with temperatures reaching 1,000°C, taking nearly eight hours to be completely extinguished.

87 houses have been declared as “total loss” in the aftermath of the disaster, while 148 other affected houses that sustained damage are deemed to be safe and can be occupied after repairs.

Over 300 people were displaced and are being sheltered at two PPS. However, no fatalities were reported.
