SHAH ALAM, April 4 — The Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) has offered temporary housing at Pangsapuri Seri Suria in Kota Warisan to the families whose homes were destroyed or damaged by the gas explosion in Putra Heights in Subang Jaya on April 1.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the initiative, offered by the state’s Smart Rental Scheme, will make 116 units available for the victims of the incident.

“These are newly-built, three-room houses, at 1,000 square-feet in size each. They already come with water and electricity supply, although are not furnished. Those affected by the fire can apply for a unit at any time. There are officers waiting to help in the process,” Borhan told Media Selangor.

“In such a situation where it is a natural disaster, we will allow them immediate occupation. Just call the number we provide. We will ease some of the regulations for them.”

According to Borhan, calls to book a unit can be made directly to Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sendirian Berhad (PHSSB) at 03-51029612. The residents can also email [email protected].

Borhan also said that it will cost RM850 to rent a unit, but price negotiations are allowed in order to help those in need.

“With regard to the rental price, we can make further discussions with the Federal or state governments. Our primary aim is to offer assistance. After this break, the residents will have to get back to work, and their children, to school. They will need a roof over their heads.”

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari confirmed that 87 houses have been completely destroyed in the incident and can no longer be inhabited, while 148 others need repairs.
