SHAH ALAM, April 3 — Victims of the gas pipeline fire along Jalan Putra Harmoni in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya have been provided with counselling through the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
State executive councillor for women's empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said this initiative is part of the recovery process for those affected and grieving due to the unexpected incident.
"During our visit yesterday, some victims we met were still in distress for various reasons, including the loss of property and sustaining injuries.
"Therefore, the state government, via JKM, is providing counselling services to help them recover and stabilise their emotions," she told Media Selangor.
Yesterday, Anfaal, along with Wanita Berdaya Selangor's chief executive officer Siti Faridah Abdul Samad, delivered aid at the temporary evacuation centre at Dewan Serbaguna Masjid Putra Heights.
The aid included clothing, infant formula, sanitary pads, disposable baby nappies, and sarongs for both men and women to meet the victims' basic needs.
Meanwhile, she said a disaster meeting chaired by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari will be held this evening to discuss appropriate assistance for the victims.
"This afternoon’s disaster response meeting will address various matters to ensure the best solutions for the fire victims.
"However, the case is still under police investigation. Therefore, appropriate compensation will be arranged by the responsible parties," Anfaal said.
Previously, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the fire was caused by a gas pipeline leak, with an estimated 500 metres of the pipeline being burnt.
78 personnel were involved in the operation, covering nine Fire and Rescue stations, including Subang Jaya, Puchong, Shah Alam, and Rawang.
Following the incident, 78 houses were completely damaged, along with 327 vehicles, across an area of 28 hectares, covering two localities: Taman Harmoni and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru.
