SHAH ALAM, April 1 — The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has evacuated victims to the Putra Heights Mosque multipurpose hall from houses nearby a massive fire that broke out in Taman Puchong Perdana earlier today.
The Smart Selangor Operations Centre (SSOC) in a statement today, which was shared by state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi in a Facebook post, said the fire spread to houses in the nearby Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, with rescue efforts ongoing to free several trapped victims.
A few victims suffered burns and at the time of writing, were waiting for ambulances for treatment. For now, the SSOC said, mosque staff were helping the victims.
It added that the Putra Heights Petronas fuel station was not involved in the blaze.
The SSOC said Petronas has closed main valves along the 500m gas pipeline that is ablaze, and that emergency personnel are waiting for the remaining gas to burn out.
Meanwhile, as at 10am, Selangor JBPM said seven people, including two senior citizens, were evacuated from the fire, with the total number of victims and spread of fire still unknown.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in a Facebook post said the district Disaster Management Unit activated the Putra Heights Mosque temporary relief centre to house them until the situation is under control.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that at 10.35am, 25 victims were receiving first aid at Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple in Subang Jaya.
A check by Bernama at the scene found Health Ministry personnel attending to victims, who suffered wounds, burns, and breathing difficulties.
It is understood that five victims have been transferred to Serdang Hospital for further treatment.
