SHAH ALAM, March 28 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat strategic director Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad has announced his intention to contest for a position in the party's Central Leadership Council (CEC) during its elections in May.
He said he decided to do so over his concern about Keadilan’s direction and dynamics in recent years.
"While reform agendas have been implemented at the government level, there remains a significant gap at the grassroots level that requires more progressive and strategic attention.
"This is where our role as leaders comes in — to ensure that the voices of members are heard, their needs understood, and their aspirations prioritised," Saifuddin said in a statement tonight.
The Batang Kali state constituency coordinator added that Keadilan’s strength lies in its members — those who have worked tirelessly, remained dedicated, and steadfastly believe in the party’s struggle.
"My experience in Selangor has taught me that the grassroots tradition, as key stakeholders, must continue to be strengthened.
"If we are to ensure that Keadilan remains relevant and respected, we must build a leadership that includes several factors," he said.
They are daring to listen by always considering the views and suggestions of members at all levels; being responsive and progressive, attuned to current issues and acts with a constructive strategy; prioritises inclusivity by involving members in the decision-making process so they feel valued and engaged; and inspiring and the willingness to execute, not merely making promises but delivering concrete and effective action.
"In the coming months, I will be visiting branches across the country to deliver this message directly to members. I want to hear firsthand their views, hopes, and suggestions from the grassroots level.
"I offer a leadership that inspires, builds confidence, and brings realistic and bold change. We need an CEC which is unafraid to lead, unafraid to evolve, and brave enough to face challenges," Saifuddin said.
He appealed for the support of all Keadilan members who believe the party must advance towards a stronger, bolder, and more constructive future.
"With guidance and inspiration from past leadership, as well as my experience in government and party administration, I humbly offer myself as your representative in the CEC for the coming term.
Together, let us build a stronger, more progressive, and more trusted Keadilan," Saifuddin concluded.
His announcement comes in the wake of several prominent party members in the past month who have chosen to stand for the party's elections or defend their posts.
They include vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, vice-president Chang Lih Kang, vice-president Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, among others.
Similarly, Kota Damansara state assemblyman Izuan Kasim offered to stand as a candidate for Keadilan's Youth Wing deputy chief position for the 2025-2028 session, while Kota Anggerik state assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi said he will go up against Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail for the post of Keadilan Shah Alam division chief.
