SHAH ALAM, March 27 — The Selangor government is ramping up efforts to support hospitals and improve health services by strengthening its collaboration with the Health Ministry (MOH) and the Selangor State Health Department.

State executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said her working visits to major public hospitals across Selangor provided valuable insights into challenges faced by medical frontliners and patients.

“The visits also included discussions with hospital representatives on key issues, such as labour shortages, which strain existing staff and may affect service efficiency,” she said in a statement today.

The visits were to Sultan Idris Shah Hospital (HSIS) in Serdang, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Hospital in Kajang, Shah Alam Hospital, Selayang Hospital, and Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

Among the issues raised were limited parking, overcrowding at emergency and outpatient departments, and the urgent need for more medical workers.

To alleviate these challenges, the Selangor government is championing technology use to streamline hospital operations and improve patient experience.

One such initiative is the HSISCare app, introduced at HSIS, which allows patients to manage appointments and access personal health records.

The system also enables online registration within a 500m radius of the hospital, reducing congestion at counters and expediting treatment.

Jamaliah said the state has implemented several community-focused healthcare initiatives to complement public hospital services.

This includes the Selangor Mental Health Programme, known as SEHAT, which offers online mental health screenings, psychiatric treatment subsidies, free counselling sessions, and a 24-hour helpline for those in need.

Another initiative, Iltizam Selangor Sihat, subsidises treatment at registered panel clinics, ensuring more people receive medical care and easing the burden on public hospitals.

Acknowledging the dedication of healthcare personnel, she said their tireless service is vital to keep the system running.
