SHAH ALAM, March 27 — Over 60,000 buyers are expected to benefit from Jualan Mega Ehsan Aidilfitri, a nine-day sales event running until Saturday.
State executive councillor for agriculture and infrastructure Dato' Izham Hashim said the affordable goods sales programme, held in 25 locations, is to alleviate the burden of Muslims ahead of the festive season.
The initiative, which includes RM376,000 in subsidies, is organised in collaboration with the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, KoHijrah Selangor, and the Selangor Agricultural Marketing Board.
“This programme is conducted in all districts, making it easier for residents to shop for their festive needs.
“Four essential items are being sold at discounted prices, with discounts ranging from RM2 to RM6, including chicken, lean beef, Grade B (chicken) eggs, and 5kg bags of rice,” he said during a press conference at the State Secretariat Building yesterday.
For the past few years, the state government has introduced festive mega sales initiatives, offering prices lower than those in the open market.
During the programme launch last week, Izham encouraged agencies to provide additional discounts on unsubsidised items to further ease the financial strain on the public.
Meanwhile, he revealed that nearly RM100,000 has been allocated to distribute 3,500 fresh chickens and 1,775 packs of 5kg rice bags to asnaf families.
“The distribution will take place tomorrow and Friday (March 28) at selected constituencies. We want the recipients to celebrate Syawal joyfully,” Izham said.
