SHAH ALAM, March 26 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has reminded Muslims, particularly in Selangor, to play their respective roles in preserving the existing unity.
His Royal Highness emphasised that despite differences in opinion, efforts should be made to find common ground and avoid minor issues that could lead to division.
“Do not engage in slander and mutual insults, as these will become a disease that ultimately destroys the unity of Muslims.
“Preserving kinship, strengthening solidarity, and fostering a sense of togetherness are highly encouraged in Islam,” Sultan Sharafuddin said during an Iftar event with the people at Masjid Raja Bendahara Tengku Badar Shah in Denai Alam today.
The Ruler said that efforts to reinforce brotherhood and unity should be led by Muslim leaders, whether in politics or religious affairs.

His Royal Highness also warned leaders against being a source of discord that fuels conflicts within the community.
“Leaders must elevate the status of Muslims so that they become more united and resilient in facing the challenges of the times,” said the Sultan.
During the same event, His Royal Highness expressed gratitude for the successful distribution of RM35.27 million in Hari Raya Aidilfitri aid to 75,207 recipients, as well as the official opening of seven new mosques throughout Ramadan.
“This assistance will hopefully ease the burden of the underprivileged in preparing for Aidilfitri,” said Sultan Sharafuddin.
The Ruler was accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah for today's event.

His Royal Highness also presented RM211,500 in Aidilfitri aid to 423 recipients, including 110 asnaf fakir, 239 poor individuals, and 74 muallafs.
The Sultan also accepted RM7.65 million in business zakat contributions from four companies, including Tenaga Nasional Berhad (RM3.39 million), Amanah Hartanah Bumiputera (RM1.86 million), CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (RM1.2 million), and Safeguards Secure Solution Sdn Bhd (RM1.2 million).
With Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari in tow, Sultan Sharafuddin then officiated the mosque, which was completed last year for RM24.1 million.
Masjid Raja Bendahara Tengku Badar Shah, built in collaboration with the Management and Science University, which contributed RM12 million, can accommodate up to 4,500 worshippers at any given time.
His Royal Highness then joined the congregation in breaking their fasts, as well as performing the Maghrib, Isha, and Tarawih prayers at the mosque.
