SHAH ALAM, March 26 — Investor confidence in industry-relevant human resources was a key factor behind Selangor’s impressive investment surge to RM101 billion last year, nearly double the RM55 billion target.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor’s upskilling and reskilling programmes have helped develop a high-competence workforce while bridging the gap between existing talent and industry demands.

“Investors require workers with specific skill sets, so we are addressing this by establishing the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre and partnering with various technology companies to enhance workforce capabilities.

“This awareness stems from our goal to create high-income opportunities as well as jobs. We are enhancing the skills of existing workers, which is one of our main strategies for attracting investment.

“This is to ensure our human resources align with industry needs and demands,” he said on the Dialog TVS programme last night.

Amirudin said Selangor is on a strong path to continued rapid growth, but the biggest challenge is ensuring that this progress benefits all segments of society, particularly in improving quality of life.

“Our strategy focuses on three main aspects — enhancing the quality and capabilities of human resources, attracting high-value investors, and venturing into hi-tech industries such as smart cities and artificial intelligence, which will be a focal point in 2025.

“In addition, we emphasise building a quality support ecosystem for investments, ensuring they complement and strengthen one another,” he said.

Amirudin previously highlighted that Selangor recorded a total investment of RM101 billion last year, far surpassing the state government’s target of RM55 billion.

He said the total investment is set to create 80,000 to 90,000 job opportunities in Selangor, marking the highest record ever achieved under the state’s Unity Government administration.
