SUBANG JAYA, March 21 — A total of 19 Ramadan bazaar traders in Subang Jaya received RM300 each in cash aid following a recent thunderstorm that caused significant losses.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said that RM5,700 had been allocated for the Ehsan contributions.

“Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to be here to provide assistance to those affected by the disaster.

“Yayasan MBI held various programmes to support the community, especially in challenging times like these.

“During Ramadan, incidents like these are quite frequent, and the Selangor government is always prepared with various forms of assistance for affected traders,” he said during the contributions handover ceremony with the MBI Foundation and the Subang Jaya state constituency office in SS19 today.

On March 9, a thunderstorm destroyed several neighbourhoods in Subang Jaya, including SS19, SS18, and SS14.

All the traders at the SS19 Ramadan bazaar suffered losses after their tents were destroyed by bad weather. Meanwhile, two traders were affected in SS14.

Subang Jaya state assemblyman Michelle Ng said her office was informed about the incident through a video that went viral.

She thanked the MBI Foundation for their contributions, adding that her office had provided tents for the affected traders following the incident.

“Some traders have lost not only their tents but also cash, and many have lost the motivation to continue their business.

“Although the assistance may not be much, we hope it helps ease their burden and allows them to recover from their losses,” Ng said.

Meanwhile, one of the affected traders, Maidatulliwanis Suman, 39, said she suffered RM700 in losses, including damaged goods and lost cash.

“Around 3pm, strong winds suddenly blew in from behind, knocking over our tent and trolley. Hot oil was spilled, our packed items were ruined, and money was flying everywhere,” said the churros seller, who has been in business for two years.

She expressed her gratitude for Ng’s swift assistance in providing a tent the next day, allowing her to continue her business.

“I did not expect to receive help this quickly. The next day, we were given tents, and today, we received financial aid.

“This support really helps us get back on our feet, and I am truly grateful to the MBI Foundation and YB (Ng),” she said.

Siti Khadijah Raie, 38, who has been running her business for six years, estimated losses of around RM1,000. She admitted that the incident left her struggling to continue.

“I lost confidence to keep going, but when YB (Ng) came and provided a tent, I pushed myself to continue. This is my main source of income — I sell burgers on regular days and drinks during Ramadan,” said the mother of two.

Siti Khadijah, who was at the stall with her daughter during the storm, said she even had to borrow some money from her family to get back on her feet.

“Thankfully, help arrived on the same day. This support means a lot because I really lost the motivation to continue.

“I am so grateful for the assistance,” she said with visible emotion.
