Miti backs hi-tech investments to boost Malaysian workforce

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 — The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) continues to support investments that introduce cutting-edge technology and enhance the skills and quality of the local workforce to keep Malaysia globally competitive.

Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said Dyson Malaysia, for example, has grown from just 10 employees in 2000 to 1,400 today, with Malaysians making up 98 per cent of its workforce.

“Of the 23 top management positions at Dyson Malaysia, 20 are held by Malaysians, and these roles extend beyond local operations to the company’s global activities,” he said in a video posted on X.

Tengku Zafrul said jobs at Dyson Malaysia go beyond product manufacturing to include research and development (R&D).

“The 35,000sqm Global Development Campus in Johor is one of Dyson’s largest worldwide.

“It is a world-class R&D centre with 22 laboratories and facilities to test Dyson prototypes,” he said.

To develop local talent, he said Dyson Malaysia is also working with Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology, an agency under Miti.
