MB slams Israeli ceasefire violation that killed Mapim aid workers

By Ufairah Tarmidzi

GOMBAK, March 19 – The recent Israeli airstrike that claimed the lives of eight humanitarian workers from the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) has been condemned as inhumane.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari strongly denounced the attack, calling it a heinous crime and a blatant violation of international law.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the victims’ families over this heartbreaking tragedy. This is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement involving a brutal airstrike by the Zionist regime,” he said.

Speaking after an Aidilfitri contribution event at Masjid Al-Khairiyah yesterday, Amirudin also spoke about Selangor’s collaboration with Mapim since last year to support Palestinians.

He added that discussions had been held with Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj on disbursing collected donations towards building essential facilities.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim strongly condemned Israel’s latest attack on the Gaza Strip, which killed more than 320 people and injured hundreds of others, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.

He said Malaysia will continue to submit protests through leadership engagements and international platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the United Nations, and the UN Security Council.

He also said Malaysia will continue providing humanitarian and welfare aid to Gaza.

On Monday, media reports confirmed that eight Mapim humanitarian workers were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, on March 15.

The attack occurred at around 1.30 pm local time as they were setting up tents to shelter displaced families affected by the ongoing conflict.

The humanitarian workers were identified as Mahmoud Yahya Al-Sarraj, Bilal Hossam Oqeila, Mahmoud Samir Oselim, Mahmoud Khaled Oselim, Mohammed Al-Ghafeer, Hazem Ghareeb, Bilal Abu Matar and Ahmad Hamad, all of whom were Palestinians.
