SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Selangor is aiming for a 25 per cent increase in tourist arrivals from China as it remains the state’s leading international tourist source.

Tourism Selangor, in a statement today, said the state recorded 352,001 Chinese tourists in 2023 and 384,811 arrivals up to September 2024.

Its chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling stated that the top Selangor destinations for the Chinese tourists are the Petaling and Hulu Langat districts.

She said the two locations have become popular due to their vibrant city attractions, shopping hubs, nature retreats, and cultural experiences.

“China has always been a key market for Selangor’s tourism industry. We anticipate a significant increase of up to 25 per cent in tourist arrivals this year.

“Tourism Selangor is excited to bring the essence of Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025 to the China market,” she said in the statement.

Chua said the recent launch of the official VSY2025 promotional video for the Chinese market, which aims to strengthen Selangor’s presence in China, marks a significant milestone in the state's international tourism efforts.

The launch of the video took place as part of the state agency’s sales mission to China from March 8 to 18, which was an initiative organised by Tourism Malaysia in four key cities, namely Kunming, Chengdu, Qingdao and Zhengzhou.

The promotional video is accessible through social media platforms, highlighting Selangor’s bustling cities, serene beaches, eco-adventure destinations and exceptional culinary scene.

Meanwhile, Chua said Tourism Selangor engaged with over 200 buyers in the four cities during the sales mission in China, alongside 60 Malaysian sellers, facilitating business-to-business (B2B) meetings, government-to-government (G2G) discussions, media collaborations and networking sessions.

“Tourism is a bridge that connects cultures, strengthens economies, and creates unforgettable experiences.

“Through the sales mission to China, we reaffirm our commitment to making Selangor a must-visit destination for Chinese tourists.

“By leveraging joint marketing campaigns, digital promotions and exclusive travel offerings, Selangor aims to solidify its position as a top travel destination while setting the stage for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” she said, adding that a series of familiarisation (FAM) trips will be held this year, allowing travel agents to experience Selangor’s unique attractions firsthand and develop exclusive travel packages.
