SABAK BERNAM, March 16 — RM140,000 has been allocated for the Sekinchan state constituency in conjunction with Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.
Its state assemblyman Dato' Ng Suee Lim said the amount includes a RM30,000 Ihya' Ramadan contribution, which will be distributed to 25 mosques and suraus.
“Five mosques will receive RM2,000 each, while 20 suraus will be given RM1,000 each. This amount has been slightly increased compared to the previous year.
“There should be no issue of a Chinese representative not helping Muslims. Instead, we must go beyond racial boundaries and care for both Islamic and non-Islamic affairs.
“We hope this assistance can help ease the burden on the management of places of worship in enlivening Ramadan programmes,” he said.
Ng was speaking to the press after the donation ceremony for storm victims and the handover of suraus and mosques contributions at Dewan Seri Sekinchan yesterday.
He added that in conjunction with Aidilfitri, the state constituency is also distributing 550 Jom Shopping vouchers to low-income families.
“The distribution of vouchers will take place on Tuesday (March 18) to facilitate recipients in shopping for their Aidilfitri preparations,” Ng said.
In conjunction with Aidilfitri this year, 36,350 vouchers worth RM200 each, involving a RM7.2 million allocation, will be distributed to low-income families in the state.
This amount is part of the RM12 million allocated to assist underprivileged families in celebrating major festivals, including Chinese New Year and Deepavali.
