KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Kelana Jaya Line Light Rapid Transit (LRT) service, confirmed a technical glitch on train number 84 at the Abdullah Hukum station yesterday.
However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
It said the incident, which went viral on social media, occurred at 10.43pm and was caused by a malfunction in the train's power collector assembly component.
"As a result of the incident, there was a small plume of smoke and a loud noise.
"The transit officer on duty onboard the train acted swiftly in accordance with standard operating procedures by instructing all passengers to disembark at Abdullah Hukum station, while an alternative train service was activated to allow passengers to continue their journey to their destinations," Rapid Rail said in a statement today.
The faulty train was sent back to the maintenance depot for further investigation.
"In order to prevent a recurrence, Rapid Rail engineers have enhanced inspections on all trains operating on the Kelana Jaya Line to ensure the reliability and safety of the train service remains at an optimal level.
"In addition, increased monitoring is being conducted by transit officers, especially onboard trains during peak hours," it said.
Rapid Rail apologised for the inconvenience passengers experienced during the incident and assured that continuous improvements would be made to ensure safe, comfortable, and smooth journeys for Rapid KL passengers.
