SHAH ALAM, March 12 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) is targeting to collect RM208 million in tithe contributions this Ramadan, including RM163 million from property tithe (zakat harta) and RM45 million from fitrah tithe (zakat fitrah).
LZS Collection Division chief Mohd Fikri Naim Harun is confident that they can achieve this target, citing a steady annual increase in zakat collections to support the needs of the asnaf (eligible recipients) in Selangor.
“Zakat fitrah collections have risen each year, with RM37 million collected in 2023 and RM41 million last year.
“With the increased zakat rates for categories two and three, now set at RM15 and RM22 this Ramadan, we are optimistic about surpassing our RM208 million target,” he said during the fast-breaking with muzakki (tithe payers) and the presentation of Ramadan tithe this evening.
To encourage greater participation in tithe contributions, LZS has launched the ‘Sentuhan Ramadan, Indahnya Berkongsi’ campaign, offering various prizes and the main prize of a holiday package to Turkiye.
In addition, the state agency aims to collect RM205 million in business tithe this year, an increase of RM14 million from the previous year.
During the event, 40 companies, along with two individual tithe payers, contributed a total of RM7.9 million in business tithe.
LZS also provided RM258,330 in tithe assistance, which includes RM12,330 in direct aid, RM86,000 for home repairs, and RM160,000 to restore religious institutions.
