Trump administration drafts list of countries to be barred from travelling to US — Reports

MOSCOW, March 7 — The administration of United States (US) President Donald Trump is preparing a new list of countries whose citizens will be denied entry to the country, which may this time include Afghanistan.

Sputnik/RIA Novosti, quoting the New York Times, cited officials familiar with the matter, who said the new list will reportedly be broader than the one Trump introduced during his first term.

The proposed "red list" currently consists mostly of countries included in Trump's first travel ban: Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

One of the officials told the New York Times that a draft proposal suggests adding Afghanistan to the list of countries whose nationals would be completely barred from entering the US.

The proposals also include an "orange" list of countries whose citizens would not be completely denied entry to the US but whose access would be restricted.

However, it is unclear whether valid visas would be revoked and whether green card holders would be affected.

During his first term in 2017, Trump implemented the first travel bans, initially targeting primarily Muslim-majority countries and later expanding to include other low-income countries, especially those in Africa. As soon as Joe Biden came into office in 2021, he revoked the travel bans.
