SHAH ALAM, March 3 — The Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which will outline the state’s development direction from 2026 onwards, is set to be tabled next year, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The framework will focus on expanding Selangor’s rail network to improve public transport connectivity, particularly in the northern and southern regions of the state.

“RS-2, which I will table next year, will see the launch of the Selangor rail network. We need to assess how to connect the northern and southern parts of Selangor, which are currently not linked to the LRT and MRT lines.

“If we can extend the network to Kuala Langat, Sepang, Sabak Bernam, and Sekinchan, that would be my vision.

“I want to see people living in Sekinchan but commuting daily to work in Petaling Jaya by train. Right now, I am discussing the cost of developing this,” he said on the ‘Teh Tarik, Kopi O Morning Show’ radio programme hosted by Selangor FM today.

Amirudin also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving public mobility through various transport initiatives, including the free Smart Selangor Bus service, which now operates on over 100 routes.

He cited the introduction of demand-responsive transit services and electric buses on dedicated routes, with four electric buses deployed to ensure a frequency of every 15 to 20 minutes.

Additionally, the Menteri Besar stressed the need for urban rejuvenation in older towns and localities across Selangor to prevent infrastructure deterioration.

“Some of these areas are already 40 to 50 years old, so urban regeneration is necessary.

“This is a major challenge that needs to be addressed soon. If not, certain localities will decline, housing will become outdated, and infrastructure systems will lag behind. For example, old water pipes that are too small and inefficient,” he said.

At the recent state executive retreat on February 28, Amirudin and his executive council members reviewed the current performance of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) based on key indicators.

The retreat also discussed the initial framework for RS-2, which will guide the state’s development from 2026 onwards to ensure Selangor remains an economic leader.

RS-1, introduced in July 2022, was designed to build a resilient and sustainable economy while ensuring the people's well-being. It also aims to increase Selangor’s contribution to Malaysia’s gross domestic product to 30 per cent by 2025.

The plan includes major projects like the Sabak Bernam Development Area and the Selangor South Integrated Development Region, formulated to anticipate the expected global economic slowdown next year.
