Mavcom appoints Wee Hock Kee as new commission member

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Malaysia and Asian Confederation of Institute of Internal Auditors former president Wee Hock Kee has been appointed as the newest commission member of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), effective February 13.

Mavcom said his appointment was made by Transport Minister Anthony Loke upon consultation with the Prime Minister, per Section 5(1)(c) of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015.

Wee is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom) and previously served as Regional Audit Director for Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa at AstraZeneca PLC (United Kingdom).

He has also made significant contributions to the internal audit profession, having served as a board member of IIA Global, a member of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Council, and the chairman of the Internal Audit Working Group at the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Wee is currently a Faculty Member and Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia and a member of the Singapore Institute of Directors.

Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim said Wee’s expertise in governance, risk management, and internal controls, coupled with his understanding of board leadership and development in both public and private sectors, will greatly enhance Mavcom's oversight and strategic direction.

“His strong track record in corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance will be invaluable as Mavcom continues to strengthen Malaysia’s aviation industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Long See Wool has concluded his tenure as a commission member. His term, which began with Mavcom's establishment, ended on February 28 this year.
