MB targets RM2.5b revenue for 2025, plans to diversify income sources

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, March 3 – The Selangor state government has set a revenue target of RM2.5 billion for 2025, a modest projection following its RM2.8 billion collection in 2024.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the target is both achievable and reasonable but acknowledged potential challenges in reaching it.

“This year, we are targeting between RM2.4 billion and RM2.5 billion. But I remain cautious. While we have exceeded our targets in previous years, we may or may not achieve it this time,” he said during the ‘Kopi O, Teh Tarik’ morning show on Selangor FM, earlier today.

He added that as of February, revenue collection stood at RM597 million.

Last year, Selangor had set a target of RM2.2 billion but ultimately collected RM2.8 billion, far surpassing expectations.

Amirudin also said that since 2021, the state has consistently exceeded its initial revenue targets.

He explained that Selangor has enacted strategic plans, including the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), to diversify its income sources by implementing key economic projects and policies.

This includes securing a stake in national projects such as the construction of the third port in Pulau Carey and encouraging state subsidiaries to contribute more to state revenue.

“We have future plans to ensure the state does not solely depend on land-related transactions, land premiums, or long-term land leases for revenue.

“We are also encouraging our subsidiaries to give back to the state. Last year alone, their contributions amounted to RM54 million. Now, we have other plans, such as securing a 20 per cent stake in the third port construction in Pulau Carey, which will provide dividends to the state based on economic activity,” he added.

Amirudin also pointed to the socioeconomic challenges Selangor faces due to high migration into the state.

He stressed the need to rejuvenate older townships to ensure Selangor remains a livable and sustainable state.
