SHAH ALAM, Feb 28 — Muslims across Malaysia will start fasting for Ramadan on Sunday, following an official announcement by Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.
In a televised message on RTM, he confirmed the date was determined with the consent of the Rulers and by the command of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
“In keeping with the command of the King and with the consent of the Rulers, I hereby declare the first day of fasting for Ramadan in Malaysia has been set for Sunday, March 2,” he said.
Previously, Syed Danial’s office said moon-sighting committees had been deployed to 29 locations nationwide today to determine the start of Ramadan.
The announcement marks the start of the holy month, during which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, pray more, and reflect on their spiritual growth.
