Dewan to discuss traffic jam charges, buskers’ recognition today

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — The Dewan Rakyat sitting today will focus on key urban issues including the implementation of congestion charges in Kuala Lumpur and efforts to elevate street performers as part of the city’s cultural identity.

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, a question will be posed to the Prime Minister during Ministers’ Question Time about the implementing mechanism for congestion charges, if introduced, and the expected impact.

P. Prabakaran (PH-Batu) will seek the Prime Minister’s response on Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s initiatives to enhance the recognition of street performers, aligning them with global city standards in an effort to position Kuala Lumpur as a cultural hub ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Meanwhile, the role of science and technology in education will also be discussed, with S. Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput) to ask the Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister on plans to expand public engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning through initiatives such as National Science Week and Malaysia Techlympics.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) is set to raise concerns with the Digital Ministry on its approach to implementing the National AI (artificial intelligence) Roadmap, optimising AI initiatives, and ensuring civil servants are equipped with AI-related skills.

Education infrastructure will also be addressed as Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH-Sungai Petani) asks the Education Minister about the government’s strategy to resolve the issue of abandoned teachers’ quarters across the country.

After the session, the sitting will proceed with the presentation and debate on the Auditor-General’s Report 2025 Series 1, before the Finance Minister tables the Supplementary Supply Bill 2025 for its second reading.
