Strong talent pipeline key to sustainable growth — PKNS

SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — Strengthening talent pipelines is essential for a sustainable workforce, as neglecting talent development could lead to long-term losses, says Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) strategic planning senior general manager Mahfizul Rusydin Abdul Rashid.

In his opening remarks at “Leadership in Action: Human Capital as the Catalyst for Transformational Growth” forum, he highlighted key challenges faced by many organisations in Selangor, including talent gaps in innovation and digitalisation, skills mismatches, and the absence of a strategic succession plan.

“With the abundance of talent gathered here today, there is immense potential for greater progress and excellence.

“(The forum) will delve into key topics, particularly talent pipelines, by examining various industries and strategies to strengthen human capital for the workforce.

“If talent is left unaddressed, it risks being lost. Strategic thinking in succession planning is crucial, and today’s panellists will provide valuable insights and guidance on this matter,” he said in a speech at the Shah Alam Convention Centre here today.

Mahfizul said human capital remains the key foundation of transformation, especially in a rapidly shifting environment.

“One of the key challenges facing human capital in Selangor is the lack of talent in innovation and digitalisation.

“There is a noticeable gap, and if it continues to widen, we risk falling behind in digital transformation,” he said.

Mahfizul also said there is a noticeable skills mismatch in the job market, likely due to educational institutions not aligning with industry demands.

As a result, he said, graduates enter the workforce unprepared, forcing employers to invest time and resources in training them for available roles.

“Succession planning is a major challenge faced by most generations. If we do not address this issue properly, it could become critical.

“Without a strategic plan, we will struggle with leadership development and the ability to cultivate agile and excellent leaders,” he said.

He expressed hope that the forum will serve as a platform for sharing insights, fostering collaboration, and generating ideas while also offering a clearer understanding of the current landscape and direction for future growth.
