SHAH ALAM, Feb 25 — Approximately 217 tahfiz schools in Selangor are currently undergoing a legalisation process through the state government’s tahfiz regularisation programme, said state executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.

Out of this number, 49 tahfiz schools have obtained full planning permission (PP), while the remaining institutions have completed the necessary documentation to meet the PP requirements.

“As of now, we still have 389 schools undergoing the process, which is being managed by the Selangor Quran Tahfiz Institutions Association, the local authorities, as well as District and Land Offices.

“The state government is on the right track to realise the wish of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor for tahfiz schools in Selangor to operate safely for students and tahfiz operators,” he said.

Fahmi was speaking during the winding-up session for the Motion of Thanks on the Royal Address by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session yesterday.

Meanwhile, he denied any interference or abuse of power by local council members that might have hindered tahfiz schools from obtaining official registration.

The Seri Setia statae assemblyman also urged all parties to report directly to the authorities if such incidents occur.

“Based on my review, there is no such interference. In this legalisation process, council members are not involved in any approvals.

"However, if anyone encounters such issues, I urge them to report it immediately so that appropriate action can be taken,” he said.

Previously, the state government, via the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), implemented the tahfiz regularisation programme to ensure that private tahfiz institutions comply with the minimum planning permission requirements set by local authorities.

This initiative aims to help private tahfiz operators continue their operations temporarily while also enabling them to receive assistance from Jais.
