SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — The initiative by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to introduce electric bus (EV) services on the route from Section 19 to Section 7 since December last year has been praised by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the service, comprising four EV buses operating from 6am to 10pm with a frequency of every 30 minutes, is more environmentally friendly.

“MBSA chose this route as it is quite popular and in high demand. It has allocated nearly RM5.6 million over three years to ensure the success of this service.

“So far, according to MBSA’s calculations, the EV buses are capable of reducing 700 kilogrammes of carbon dioxide per day compared to using diesel. If we can add more, the impact will be even better,” Amirudin said during the launch ceremony of the EV buses at Hentian Akhir Bandar in Section 19 today.

Following this success, he said the state government aims to expand the EV bus service, particularly in the Selangor Greater Klang Valley, given its positive impact on the environment as well as cost savings.

Since 2015, the state government has introduced the Selangor Smart Bus programme, which has been consistently implemented across all local authorities, covering 60 routes and 164 buses.

Apart from MBSA, the Petaling Jaya City Council also deployed two EV buses last year as a pilot project towards making Petaling Jaya a carbon-free city by 2030.
