Disabled man hit by train, dies after falling on LRT tracks

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — A disabled man died after allegedly falling on the Titiwangsa LRT track after he was believed to have been hit by a train early today.

Operations commander Fadil Hesam Mohd said the Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre received an emergency call at about 8.30am through the MERS-999 system about the discovery of the body.

He said the victim, a Chinese man with a visual impairment, was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry (MOH) staff.

“The incident is believed to have happened due to the victim losing his balance and falling without the train driver noticing,” he said in a statement.

He said the authorities are continuing the investigation to identify the actual cause of the incident and to examine the train’s operational records at the time of the incident.

The statement said the process of removing the body is being carried out meticulously by the authorities to ensure the safety of the investigation, in accordance with the standard operating procedure.

Meanwhile, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has taken safety measures by deactivating the power supply at the station to allow rescue, police and medical teams to operate.

As a result of the incident, services at PWTC, Titiwangsa, Sentul and Sentul Timur stations were temporarily affected, and alternative rail services, including a free shuttle bus, were activated to support the rescue operations.

The authorities are now continuing further investigations to identify the actual cause of the incident and take appropriate actions. The investigation will also involve examining the train’s operational records at the time of the incident.

Any further developments will be updated through Rapid KL’s social media pages and announcements at the stations.

Meanwhile, Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said police are identifying the victim’s identity and the case has been classified as sudden death.

“The victim’s body has been taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital and the post-mortem process is expected to begin today,” he also said.

He added that the initial investigation found no criminal elements in this incident as the victim slipped while a train passed.
