SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 — A total of 185 children rescued from GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) in Selangor have been released to their families under a conditional bond set by the court, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.
She said the release was carried out under Section 30(8) of the Child Act 2001, which allows the court to impose specific conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.
“If the parents break any of the conditions set under the bond, then action can be taken to rescue the children from their care,” she said during the question and answer sessions in the State Legislative Assembly today.
Anfaal was answering a question posed by Bukit Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei on the conditions and terms set by the court for the children to be released to their respective families.
Among the conditions imposed on the parents or guardians are that they must inform the court-appointed protector and the authorities if they change their residence, ensure the children receive formal education, and guarantee that no mistreatment or neglect occurs.
Parents are also required to report to the nearest Social Welfare Department office every three months for monitoring and supervision, while the children cannot be used as content on social media or any other media platform.
Anfaal also explained that the suitability of the guardians was assessed based on their financial stability, living environment, social readiness, and ability to provide for the children’s education, she added.
On September 10 last year, police raided 20 GISBH premises across Selangor and Negeri Sembilan over suspected human trafficking and other offences.
During Op Global, authorities rescued 402 children and teenagers, aged one to 17, who were believed to be victims of exploitation, neglect, and abuse.
