SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 — The state government is committed to fostering the wakaf (Islamic charitable endowment) culture among the community, particularly state civil servants, through salary deductions.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that to support this initiative, they will discuss the matter with Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI to organise promotional activities aimed at increasing wakaf awareness.
“The discussions will also involve the Selangor State Secretary and state financial officers to designate a wakaf month as a platform for promoting the wakaf culture.
“This effort is not just about donating wealth or seeking spiritual rewards and guidance for the afterlife, but also about the importance of benefiting society through the wakaf initiatives being implemented,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the press after launching the state-level Wakaf Month at the Shah Alam Convention Centre yesterday.
Earlier, the Menteri Besar witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor and Bank Simpanan Nasional, aimed at strengthening cash wakaf collection and facilitating bank contributors in practising the act of wakaf.
At the same event, 10 government-linked companies and private entities contributed RM700,000 towards the state's wakaf fund.
