SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 — The Selangor Disabled Persons Action Council (MTOS) has urged the local authorities to provide facilities that support the development of the special-needs community.

Its chairman Danial Al-Rashid Haron said that he has received feedback from parents and disabled persons' organisations expressing disappointment over the lack of facilities for the community.

“I urge the local authorities to prioritise this issue because every time a new development project is introduced, I am unsure where the problem lies — whether the plans are not properly reviewed or if they are merely empty promises from developers

“Is the implementation being carried out effectively? Please acknowledge and fulfil the requests of these parents,” he said during the debate session on the royal address by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor at the State Legislative Assembly session yesterday.

Meanwhile, Danial proposed that Anak Istimewa Selangor and the Selangor Public Library Corporation collaborate to establish a transit centre for special-needs children.

The Batu Tiga state assemblyman said the proposed transit centre aims to ease the burden of parents who often feel exhausted from caring for their special-needs children.

“The transit centre will provide parents with a place to send their children so they can have some time to relax and rest.

"I also propose the establishment of a psychological rehabilitation centre for parents of disabled children,” he said.

Previously, the MTOS was reported to be actively completing the final phase of the Selangor Disabled Persons Policy, which aims to benefit and recognise the role of the special-needs community.

Danial said the state’s first disabled persons policy is scheduled to be launched in the middle of this year after being presented to the Selangor Economic Action Council in May.
