SHAH ALAM, Feb 20 — The Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) expansion will not displace any private homeowners, as the project will only utilise reserve land, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.
He said the project, to begin at month-end, will follow the existing alignment without encroaching on more private land.
“Construction of the project is within the reserve land corridor, so there is no additional land involved.
“This means that if this route needs to be implemented, additional lanes will involve areas that have already been entered, just like other developments we have carried out for flood mitigation,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.
Izham said that in handling settlement and encroachment issues, the authorities have always followed legal procedures, including in areas such as Sungai Pelempas and Sungai Kedondong, to ensure landowners are not unfairly burdened.
“This is also why many projects, including water supply infrastructure, have faced delays, as we take the necessary steps to follow due process,” he said.
Izham said a section of the highway within Selangor includes land owned by the Federal Lands Commissioner and the Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS).
He said KLK concessionaire AFA Prime Bhd also held engagement sessions with the Federal Land and Mines Director-General’s Department (JKPTG), the Selangor State Secretary’s Office, and JPNS.
“These discussions identified that most of the settlements along the highway’s periphery are informal settlements.
“In response, the concessionaire, along with JKPTG, JPNS, and other agencies, have initiated a census to document these settlements.
“The findings will be reviewed by the authorities to determine the next course of action, in line with existing regulations,” he added.
