SHAH ALAM, Feb 20 — The Selangor has requested an additional RM5 million from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) to support initiatives under the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY25) campaign.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the extra funds could be used to provide vouchers and coupons for local attractions, encouraging more visitors to explore Selangor.

“Similarly, the allocation can be used for collaborations with digital platforms such as Touch ‘n Go and Shopee, making it easier for young people to access offers on tourism products through these platforms,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly this morning.

Ng was responding to a supplementary question from Teratai assemblyman Yew Jia Haur, who asked how the state plans to use the RM5 million allocation from Motac.

Earlier, Ng said the state government has over 60 tourism programmes lined up as the main attractions for VSY25.

Selangor expects to generate RM11.7 billion in tourism receipts this year, with an additional 50 promotional campaigns to attract eight million visitors to the state.

On November 15, in tabling the 2025 Selangor State Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an RM8 million allocation for VSY25 campaign promotion and tourism events.
