SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has called for stronger security measures by expanding closed-circuit television (CCTV) coverage in strategic locations to deter crime.
Expressing his concerns over public security in the state, His Royal Highness also urged authorities, including police and the fire department, to remain on high alert to uphold safety across the state.
“I urge the increase in CCTV installations in strategic locations to ensure the swift detection of criminal activities.
“I also urge the police and fire departments to remain vigilant and fully prepared in carrying out their duties to ensure the safety and security of Selangor,” he said in his Royal address during the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Term of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

His decree comes after a recent public shooting at a shopping mall in Setia Alam on February 8, where a cleaner was shot in the leg by an unidentified person.
The attacker, in his 30s, was killed in a shootout with police at a hotel in Pulau Ketam, Klang, early today. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man was tracked down in a joint operation by the Bukit Aman and Selangor Criminal Investigation Departments at around 3am.
Meanwhile, Sultan Sharafuddin also urged the upgrading and equipping of public hospitals with better facilities to improve healthcare services for the state’s growing population.
“Selangor needs efficient and sufficient healthcare services to keep up with its rapidly growing population.
“Hospitals and health centres must be increased to meet demand, as many people still rely on government healthcare due to the high cost of private treatment.
“I also hope that old hospitals will be upgraded and equipped with modern facilities and sufficient staff. I recommend the Selangor Health Department to discuss this matter with the Health Ministry,” he said.
