SHAH ALAM, Feb 17 – Approximately 423 Form One students in Selangor have been selected to participate in the Special Education Plan Programme (RKPYS), a joint initiative by the Education Ministry (MOE) and Yayasan Selangor (YS) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

YS announced that the selected students have been placed across 27 sponsored schools, including SMK Jalan Tiga Bangi, SMK Aminuddin Baki Kuala Lumpur (KL), and Victoria Institution KL.

“YS received 3,076 applications between November 4 and November 19, 2024, from students aspiring to join the programme. The results, announced from January 20 to January 30, revealed 423 successful candidates,” it said in a recent statement.

The selected students come from low-income families earning less than RM2,000 per month and have achieved a minimum of TP 3 in all Year Six classroom assessment subjects during their primary education.

YS said the RKPYS, established in 1971, aims to support high-potential students from low- and middle-income families.

The programme provides comprehensive benefits, including hostel accommodation, scholarships, tutoring classes, academic excellence programmes, and personal development initiatives, all while adhering to the guidelines set by the MOE.

“Registration for students placed at YS’s central hostels: the YS Klang Hostel and the YS Sabak Bernam Hostel, took place on February 13 and February 16,’’ it said.

YS has also appointed a coordinating teacher at each sponsored school to monitor their development to ensure the students’ academic progress and well-being.
