HULU LANGAT, Feb 17 — Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek and Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari visited the newly-opened Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Pelangi Semenyih here this morning on the first day of school for the new year.
Together in the entourage were Selangor Deputy Police Chief Datuk S Sasikala Devi; state Director of Education Jafri Abu; Deputy Director of Education Nor Mohd Azam Ahmad and Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz.
Fadhlina and Amirudin spent about 45 minutes meeting with the Year One students to cheer them up and calm their nerves.
After making a tour of the school’s classrooms, Fadhlina handed over cash aid worth RM3,000 donated by Yayasan Guru Tun Hussein Onn to Principal Nur Hanani Md Nafi to help students from low-income families.
During the visit, Fadhlina told the media that there are currently 1,005 students enrolled in the school — built in 2018 — from kindergarten level up to Year 6.
“Families living in this area have been waiting for the school to open and to take in students,” she said.
“I wish to congratulate the school’s governing body for overcoming the challenges in setting up the school and to provide the students with an ecosystem suitable for learning,” she added.
As expected, there was much fanfare in the school grounds today, with some students looking excited to make new friends while others refusing to part with their parents.
