PETALING JAYA, Feb 16 — Approximately 1,650 students in the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary constituency have received assistance in conjunction with the new school term starting tomorrow.
Its MP Lee Chean Chung said the recipients of the back-to-school aid include Year One to Form Five students from low-income (B40) families.
“The assistance is distributed in stages, including contributions from Mydin and the Sunway Group a few days ago. Today, 300 students received aid through Parliamentary allocations.
“This number represents part of the total recipients, as the state government has also provided early school assistance to eligible students,” he said.

Speaking at the BTS Carnival at Dewan Pelindung PJS 6 today, Lee added that his office also offered a subsidised haircut service at RM5 per student.
“We are providing subsidies to reduce the cost. The price is affordable and reasonable, and it is open to all students,” he said.
Meanwhile, housewife Shariza Basir, 42, expressed relief as the aid, which includes school uniforms, shoes, bags, and stationery, has eased the financial burden of preparing for her four children’s schooling needs.

“When one child receives assistance, I can cut down on expenses. For my other three children, I still need around RM1,000 just for school supplies,” she said.
General worker S. Umadewi, 34, said she did not purchase school uniforms for her child after being informed that they were eligible for aid.
“The Joint Management Body informed me that my child was eligible for assistance. Now, I will only need to set aside money for other school-related expenses,” she said.
