KLANG, Feb 15 — Women must learn to manage and handle daily stress well to avoid health issues, including anxiety.

Motivational speaker Sharifah Shawati Syed Mohd said women can be stress-free with prevention methods such as engaging in recreational activities.

“Pressure is actually important as it helps elevate us to unprecedented levels. Without pressure, we will be stuck in old ruts as there is nothing to push us further.

“However, as women, we must be smart in managing stress with methods such as calming ourselves down with leisure activities, early planning, and preserving our image, emotions, and health,” she said.

Speaking at the Inspirasi Wanita programme, held in conjunction with the Klang Royal City Council’s Women’s Day, at Dewan Hamzah Klang, last night, Shawati, who is a former television personality, advised women not to compare themselves to others.

“Don’t compare yourself to others as this also creates stress. From today, be grateful for your achievements, no matter how small,” she said.

Meanwhile, Klang mayor’s wife Datin Jamaliah Ab Aziz said the modern woman not only plays a role in the family, but also in the economy, education, technology and health.

“Malaysia’s gender index gap shows that women’s overall participation in Malaysia’s economy is still low, though the percentage of women in managerial positions rose to 25.4 per cent in 2023 from 23.8 per cent in 2022.

“This shows progress towards ensuring women’s participation and leadership opportunities in various sectors. The role and contribution of women in national development is significant and invaluable,” she said.

Jamaliah also urged all parties to fight for women’s rights to be given equal opportunities to achieve their potential and contribute their best to society.
