MB orders land offices to review system gaps, illegal land deals

SHAH ALAM, Feb 14 – All District and Land Offices (PDT) in Selangor have been directed to review potential loopholes in the land registration system and detect any illegal land transfers that may have occurred.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he issued the directive during a recent land committee meeting, following investigations into alleged land transfer manipulation during the transition from the conventional registration process to the e-Tanah system.

“I have instructed all PDTs to conduct thorough reviews to determine if such issues occur, as they not only result in financial losses but also affect public perception and trust in the land transfer process,” he said on TVAlhijrah’s Analisis Madani: Transformasi Selangor, Ekonomi Pendidikan dan Infrastruktur talk show, last night.

Also featured was senior political secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.

Amirudin stated that land is one of the state’s most valuable resources, and any ongoing irregularities could not only cause financial losses but also hinder planned development efforts for both the state and landowners.

Previously, Amirudin had said that government agencies would conduct internal audits and investigations to identify those involved in illegal land transfers.

This followed a recommendation from Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department Director, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, who urged government agencies, including PDTs, to conduct audits and internal probes to identify others involved in land cartel activities.

Ramli also confirmed that the police are prepared to launch a full-scale investigation if evidence emerges linking other PDTs to such crimes.

Past media reports revealed that 17 individuals had been arrested in separate operations since September last year for suspected involvement in land transfer cartels.

As of January 27, a total of seven cases are under investigation, involving 21 acres (over 9.4 hectares) of land, with an estimated total loss of RM7.1 million.
