Harmony Parade to feature decorated floats highlighting nation’s diversity

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 — Decorated floats highlighting the unique cultures of the country’s diverse ethnicities will be the main attraction at the Harmony Parade at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday and Sunday.

The National Unity Ministry in a statement today said the celebration starts at 9pm with 600 participants from 10 ethnic groups — Malay, Indian, Chinese, Sabahan, Sarawakian, Orang Asli, Baba and Nyonya, Siamese, Chetty, and Javanese.

It said participants will put on cultural performances and play musical instruments throughout the 1.6km parade from Dataran Merdeka, through Jalan Raja and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, ending the procession back at Dataran Merdeka.

The Harmony Parade is a new initiative by the ministry to strengthen unity by showcasing the diversity, uniqueness, and rich heritage of Malaysian communities.

It is also part of the Federal Territories Day 2025 and World Interfaith Harmony Week, now rebranded as the Federal Territories Harmony Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said in the same statement that the programme serves as a platform for fostering unity.

“Unity and social cohesion are the main objectives of the Madani Government. Therefore, the implementation of such programmes can provide opportunities for the community to recognise the diversity in religions and cultures, leading to the shaping of a united society that practises the concepts of ‘Understand, Respect, and Accept’,” he added.
