PETALING JAYA, Feb 9 — The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) is set to establish five more transit-friendly libraries this year.
Its director, Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad, said the proposed locations include the Hicom People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Shah Alam, PPR Taman Medan Jaya and Desa Mentari in Petaling Jaya, Pangsapuri Enggang in Puchong, and Bangi.
“Discussions with the relevant parties are ongoing, and if all goes well, these five libraries will be established within the year,” she said.
Mastura also urged government agencies and private entities to contribute towards expanding the initiative.
“We welcome support from government agencies, corporate companies, and private organisations. All contributions are eligible for tax exemptions,” she added.
Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari officiated the opening of the Selangor Public Library @ AYG Kota Damansara Block D at PPR Kota Damansara.
Currently, Selangor has 14 transit-friendly libraries, each equipped with essential facilities such as restrooms, prayer rooms, pantries, multimedia spaces, free WiFi, dedicated reading corners for children and adults, and nursing rooms.
Amirudin previously highlighted that Selangor is fostering a culture of knowledge by positioning libraries as hubs of learning, supporting the state’s knowledge-based development agenda.
