KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Sarawak has dropped, while Sabah and Johor recorded an increase as at 8pm today.
Sarawak
The state Disaster Management secretariat said the number of evacuees dropped to 5,125 from 5,281 this afternoon, with 30 PPS in the state thus far.
The Bintulu division recorded a drop in the number of evacuees from 1,889 this afternoon to 1,865, while in the Miri division, there were 1,217 evacuees, down from 1,291 earlier.
In Sibu, the number of flood victims increased to 876 people from 848 previously, the Serian division still had 507 victims, while the Samarahan division dropped to 149 victims compared with 294 this afternoon.
In addition, the Mukah division saw an increase in the number of evacuees to 501 people from 452 this afternoon, while in Sarikei, there are 10 evacuees from two families tonight.
Sabah
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the number of evacuees rose to 228 from 201 this afternoon.
According to him, Kinabatangan is the only district still flooded, with 73 people from 20 families are housed at the SK Sukau PPS and 155 people from 40 families are housed at the SK Bukit Garam PPS.
Johor
The latest state hit by floods, the number of evacuees increased to 364 people tonight from 349 this evening.
State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Azmi Rohani said all evacuees from 106 families were housed at three PPS in Kota Tinggi.
“The PPS that were activated were Dewan Muafakat Taman Desaru Utama with 173 evacuees, Dewan Kampung Baru Sungai Mas (34), and SK Bandar Penawar (157).
“Meanwhile, affected areas include Taman Desaru Utama, Kampung Baru Sungai Mas and Taman Penawar Harmoni,” he said in a statement today.
