PETALING JAYA, Feb 5 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has established a partnership with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to protect Ramadan bazaar traders this year.
Deputy Mayor Aznan Hassan said the first-time initiative aims to protect traders in the event of untoward incidents as they work during the fasting month.
“We recommend that all traders register for this scheme. It benefits them greatly and only costs RM13.90 a month.
“Today, we made a counter available to allow traders to register (to contribute to Socso),” he said after launching the “Joyful and Sustainable” Ramadan Bazaars 2025 at the Petaling Jaya City Council headquarters here today.
Meanwhile, Aznan said around 100 MBPJ and People’s Volunteer Corps workers will be posted at bazaars in the district.
“In addition to ensuring safety and preventing traffic congestion, MBPJ workers will also monitor cleanliness.
“The city council will take strict actions against traders without permits during Ramadan,” he said.
This year, the MBPJ has prepared 1,260 bazaar stall spots in 18 locations throughout the district, with 1,107 traders having already applied for 88 per cent of the spots available.
