Free Komuter rides for Thaipusam proof of govt’s inclusivity — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — The move to provide free KTM Komuter services in conjunction with Thaipusam not only brings joy to the Hindu community, but reflects the inclusivity and unity promoted by the Madani government, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu.

In a statement today, he said the decision proved the government’s policy is not mere rhetoric, but truly prioritises the people’s welfare.

“By offering the free rides, the government is not only helping the less fortunate but also encourages the use of public transport, which helps reduce traffic congestion that often occurs during major festivities.

“This also aligns with environmental sustainability goals as increased use of public transport can reduce carbon emissions from private vehicles,” he said, adding that the move portrays the government’s efforts to strengthen its relationship with the Indian community.

“In a challenging political and economic climate, such initiatives send a positive signal that the government values every segment of society and ensures that they are not marginalised,” he added.

Earlier, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd would provide free KTM Komuter rides on February 10 and 11.

He also said additional trains would operate around the clock from February 9 to 12.
