SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Policies Selangor has implemented encompasses the needs of all, thus strengthening unity in this multiracial society.

Selangor Keadilan Youth chairman Izuan Kasim said nearly all Iltizam Selangor Penyayang initiatives are meant for the entire community without sidelining any race.

“State policies play an important role in strengthening racial unity. For example, Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor, which is not for Malay, Chinese, or Indian people, but for anyone eligible.

“Same goes with the festival-time Jom Shopping vouchers. Every festival, we hand those out. The Selangor People’s Tuition Programme isn’t choosy with students, either. We give (the opportunity) to all students,” Izuan Kasim told Selangorkini.

The Kota Damansara assemblyman said that since the beginning, Selangor has been the residence of choice for many due to its strategic location and wide economic opportunities.

He added that the administration will always prioritise the people’s needs and welfare to ensure their well-being as it affects unity and understanding.

Meanwhile, Selangor DAP assistant secretary Tony Leong Tuck Chee said the state administration maintains an open attitude and listens to the people.

“We do not pick favourites and we give the people what they want. We listen to their requests and if we have the means, we disburse the funds. For instance, aid for national, private and Islamic religious schools.

“If there is a need and we have the needs, we will help. This effort must be continued in the future for our collective interests,” he said.

Also weighing in was Amanah communications director Abbas Azmi, who said all religions are able to have their own houses of worship, which strengthens unity.

“Firstly, we must cater to the interests of all religions and races, starting from the houses of worship. Selangor has lively mosques that host various programmes, with the main selawat. This is among the approaches to unite Muslims.

“Non-Muslim houses of worship must be well cared for. There mustn’t be demolitions willy-nilly. We must follow requirements. This is needed so the community respects one another,” he said.
