SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, has issued an open court apology for making false allegations against Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), following the amicable resolution of a defamation suit filed against him.

The suit, initiated by LLSB on August 8, 2023, stemmed from multiple statements made by Chegubard on his social media platforms and other online channels, which the company contended were false and defamatory, damaging to its reputation and standing.

In a statement today, LLSB confirmed the case was resolved through an out-of-court settlement proposed by Chegubard, who also assured that he would refrain from making any further false or defamatory statements regarding LLSB, the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project, or any related matters.

“As part of the settlement, Chegubard has issued an apology in open court before the presiding judge, acknowledging the unfounded nature of the allegations and expressing regret that the impact of his defamatory statements or allegations made against LLSB have caused undue harm, distress and damage to LLSB’s reputation, for which he takes full responsibility.

“Chegubard has retracted all of his statements made and/or published in his social media platforms and other online platforms in their entirety and confirmed they were made without malicious intent and were based on incorrect and incomplete information,” the statement read.

LLSB said it welcomes the resolution, emphasising its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.

“We will remain dedicated to our mission of driving sustainable development and contributing positively to the community and stakeholders we serve,” it said.

LLSB also expressed gratitude to its partners, supporters, and the public for their continued trust and understanding throughout the legal proceedings.

“We thank all our partners and supporters as well as the public for their unwavering support and understanding, especially throughout this court proceeding.

“We remain steadfast in upholding good governance across all our operations and in taking responsibility for all our projects. Our commitment to environmental issues and sustainability remains unwavering,” it stated.

The state agency reiterated its dedication to upholding good governance and ensuring all projects are managed with integrity and in alignment with state government policies and the high standards set by its parent company, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI.

On August 3, 2023, LLSB served a letter of demand to Chegubard over his defamatory remarks made against the firm and the SMG project, which it manages.

Specifically, the state agency demanded the Bersatu information committee member to make a public apology, retract his previous statements on LLSB and cease from issuing any further wrongful and defamatory remarks against it and SMG.

LLSB added that it also pursued legal action against several other people and an online portal for slander and defamation.

SMG is a long-term, integrated river cleaning and development project that aims to add value and improve socio-economic opportunities along Sungai Klang, which spans 56km from Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang.
