SHAH ALAM, Jan 29 — Last year’s encouraging achievement of 96 per cent for civil service development must be maintained this year, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday.
He said teamwork within the civil service must be continued so the state does not lag behind, and instead pursues a better standing.
He also reminded the state administration to nurture a sense of competition by using developed countries, government agencies and private companies as benchmarks to enhance its performance.
“We must not be complacent. If we achieve 97 or 98 per cent this year, there must be room to improve next year. If we have reached a point of pride, we must expedite implementation. This is a challenge for us.
“Yes, we must follow SOP and governance guides, but we must streamline. If we cannot match up to developed countries, we must look at the private sector and government agencies.
“The private sector has extraordinary speed as it has motivation to generate profit,” he said during the 2024 excellent service awards and 2025 service appreciation ceremonies for civil servants here yesterday.

Amirudin said the Speed Selangor Policy, introduced this year to shorten approval times for industrial area planning, will improve the state administration’s performance.
“Speed Selangor is not to satisfy customers but to position the government at an elevated, respectable and credible level,” he said.
During the ceremony, Amirudin presented 124 recipients with excellent service awards, including state Financial Officer Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin and Selangor Mufti Dato’ Anhar Opir.
He also presented 38 civil servants with service appreciation awards.
