SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 – The much anticipated and nearly completed Selangor Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) will be able to resolve water disruption issues in the state, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In his 2025 New Year speech delivered at the state administrative headquarters today, he said the comprehensive scheme has already managed to reduce water disruption incidents statewide since 2020.

“Water supply disruptions have occurred repeatedly since 2020, with issues persisting continuously. But then we have implemented the SJAM, which is now nearly complete, and we are confident it will address pollution issues (causing water disruption) effectively.

“Last year alone, there were more than 20 incidents, with three to five major disruptions requiring stoppages. So we must implement various improvement measures as there is still much to refine and enhance,” Amirudin said.

He also applauded the Selangor Water Management Authority in their contribution to the state’s success in combating water related pollution, effective water management, and implementing policies.

“I am grateful that throughout December and so far in January, the situation has been relatively under control. Incidents have been minimal.

“The major issue involving a broken retention pond was beyond our plans. Even so, we managed to resolve it within two or three days,” Amirudin said, referring to the recent incident of a collapsed retention pond wall in Taman Seri Alam that caused flooding to a nearby neighbourhood.

Currently, SJAM, which consists of inter-agency and local authorities’ cooperation, is responsible for managing water resources in the state, including water-related infrastructure projects.

Four main projects under SJAM involve the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of pumping systems and related works at various sites.

They are the Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System 600 in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor (Package A); the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Kuala Selangor (Package B); the Sungai Selangor Phases One, Two, and Three WTP in Bestari Jaya (Package C); and the Sungai Semenyih WTP in Jenderam Hilir (Package D).
