SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — The state government plans to expand the 2025 Selangor Cultural Village Carnival programme to other districts to further strengthen the arts and heritage in the state.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the plan comes after the encouraging response to the inaugural event, which has drawn over 20,000 visitors as of yesterday.

“We will go to other districts. For instance, the food festival, which was previously held for three consecutive years in Bagan Lalang, Sepang, will be hosted in Kuala Selangor this year.

“This will also allow tourists to visit other districts in Selangor and experience the vibrancy of all the different cultures,” he told the press at Dataran Kemerdekaan yesterday.

Earlier, Borhan attended the launch of the 2025 Selangor Cultural Village Carnival officiated by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

Additionally, he intends to introduce the official slogan ‘Seni Budaya Cahaya Negeri’ (Arts and Culture Illuminate the State) under Selangor’s cultural portfolio.

The proposed slogan, which highlights the significance of arts to a state, will be tabled at the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting soon.

“The slogan means that without the arts, a state has no essence, as if it lacks light. I will bring this to the MMKN to make it the official motto under the state’s cultural portfolio,” Borhan said.

The 2025 Selangor Cultural Village Carnival, held from Thursday (January 23) until today, features various activities, including cultural performances, handicraft sales, and food stalls at Pasar Saloma.

This inaugural carnival is also enlivened by traditional games competitions including spinning tops (gasing pangkah), rubber rope games (tali getah), giant draughts (dam gergasi), traditional board games like congkak, batu seremban, and slingshots.
