KLANG, Jan 21 — Police have confirmed 32 people were injured in an explosion at a chemical recycling plant in Taman Perindustrian Kapar Indah here yesterday.
Klang Utara police chief S. Vijaya Rao said those hurt, aged between 20 and 40, were in the vicinity at the time of the explosion.
“All of them are locals. They received outpatient treatment at Tunku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital and were allowed to go home. No serious injuries were reported,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Meanwhile, a Bernama reporter who visited the scene this afternoon observed that police, firefighters, and officers from the Klang Health Office were inspecting the site.
Earlier, Selangor Environment Department director Nor Aziah Jaafar reportedly said negligence and violations of licence conditions would be among the areas investigated.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said initial investigations indicated the explosion was caused by chemicals stored in the plant’s compound.
